Telluride is the area seat and most crowded town of San Miguel County in the southwestern segment of the U.S. territory of Colorado.[5] The town is a previous silver mining camp on the San Miguel River in the western San Juan Mountains. The first gold mining guarantee was made in quite a while above Telluride in 1875, and early settlement of what is currently Telluride followed. The actual town was established in 1878 as "Columbia", yet because of disarray with a California town of a similar name, was renamed Telluride in 1887 for the gold telluride minerals found in different pieces of Colorado. These telluride minerals were never found close to Telluride, however the region's mines for certain years gave zinc, lead, copper, silver, and other gold metals.
